THE BREED
Yes, Mini Golden Retrievers Are Real. And They’re Everything You’re Hoping.
Take everything you love about a Golden Retriever — the loyalty, the sweetness, the temperament that just makes life better — and picture it in a smaller, more manageable size.
That’s a Mini Golden Retriever. Most of ours are between 25–35 pounds — big enough to be your adventure buddy, small enough to curl up on your lap at the end of the day.
Mini Goldens are a mix of Golden Retriever with Cocker Spaniel, King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, and/or Poodle. And here’s what most people don’t realize: the mix is actually the secret. It’s what makes these dogs healthier, more resilient, and built for a longer, fuller life with you.
TEMPERAMENT & OUR STORY
You Know the Dog You’ve Dreamt About?
We Raise That Dog.
Imagine a dog that’s calm at the vet. Comfortable at the groomer. Gentle with everyone who walks through your door. Confident in new places, relaxed in your home, and bonded to you in a way that just feels different.
That doesn’t happen by accident. And it doesn’t happen because a breeder got lucky.
Big Hearted Breeders didn’t start because we wanted to sell puppies. It started with our family’s work with foster children and watching our kids transform through the love of a pet. Our children had been through more than most ever will and the one thing that helped more than anything? Sitting down next to a loving, calm dog finally allowed them to let their guard down. We saw what the right dog could do. The hope it brought. The connection it created.
That’s why we obsess over temperament the way we do. Not because it looks good on a website, but because we’ve seen firsthand what a dog with the right temperament can bring into a home.
Here’s how we build that from day one.
Starting at just 3 days old, every puppy begins early neurological stimulation and early scent introduction, strengthening their neurological development before their eyes are even open. From there, our team follows a daily developmental curriculum tailored to each age and stage. New sounds. New textures. New challenges. Think of it like a lesson plan, because that's exactly what it is.
Every puppy goes through a daily touch protocol, from ears, to paws, to mouth, to belly, to nails, so when you take them to the vet or the groomer for the first time, they're already comfortable. And when the people you love want to hold them, they lean in instead of pulling away.
And we don't just run a test at 7 weeks and call it done. Our team does what’s rarely done. We observe every puppy daily.
How outgoing are they?
How do they respond to new things?
Do they charge in headfirst or watch from the side first?
That's how we get to know who each puppy really is.
So when you ask us "which puppy is right for me," we don't guess. We know.
Now that you know who we are, how we do things, and what to expect - it's time for the best part.

HEALTH & GENETICS
Still Not Sure if Big Hearted Pups are For Your Family…
Bred Healthier on Purpose. Not by Accident.
One of the biggest fears of bringing home a new puppy is the unknown.
Will they be healthy long-term?
Will you face unexpected vet bills?
Will they live the long, full life you're already imagining together?
We built our entire breeding program to take that worry off your plate.
It starts with a number most breeders don't even talk about: the Coefficient of Inbreeding, or COI. It measures how genetically diverse a puppy's parents are and the lower the number, the healthier the dog. Lower COI means fewer inherited health issues, stronger immune systems, and a longer life.

OUR GOAL FOR EVERY LITTER
Here's what that looks like in practice: Every parent dog in our program has completed OFA screening for hips, elbows, patellas, cardiac, and eyes. They've also had a PennHIP evaluation. Beyond that, all of our breeding dogs undergo a comprehensive genetic panel designed specifically for breeders, the most robust panel available, so we can identify recessive genes and make fully informed breeding decisions.
Every puppy leaves our care with a comprehensive vet check, microchip, and our lifetime genetic health guarantee. Because we don't just want your puppy to come home healthy. We want them to stay that way.

FAQ
Questions We Hear a Lot
What is a Mini Golden Retriever?
A Mini Golden Retriever is a mix of Golden Retriever with Cocker Spaniel, King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, and/or Poodle — bred for the loving, loyal Golden temperament in a smaller, more manageable size. Most of ours are between 25–35 pounds.
How do I know which puppy is right for me?
That's exactly what our process is designed to help you figure out. Text a puppy's name to get their video, and then schedule a Zoom call with me. I'll get to know you, your lifestyle, and what you're looking for — and I'll be honest about whether that puppy is your match.
What does the screening call involve?
It's a relaxed Zoom conversation. I want to hear about your life, answer every question you have, and make sure we're placing the right puppy with you. There's no pressure — just an honest conversation between us.
What health testing do you do?
We go far beyond the basics — OFA screenings, PennHIP evaluations, and comprehensive genetic panels on every parent dog. [Read the full details in our health section above.]
What's included with my puppy?
Every puppy comes with a lifetime genetic health guarantee, microchipping, comprehensive vet checks, and lifetime support from our team.
What is the application fee?
The application fee reserves your puppy after our screening call. It's part of your puppy's total cost. We'll walk you through all the details during our call.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — we offer financing for qualifying families. We'll share the details in your puppy's video and can answer any questions on our call.
What support do I get after I bring my puppy home?
That's when our lifetime support really kicks in. You'll have direct access to our team for any questions — settling in, training, behavior, health concerns, anything. We also provide resources to help you through those first weeks. You're never on your own with a Big Hearted puppy.
What does lifetime support actually mean? I
t means exactly what it sounds like. Whether your puppy is 8 weeks old or 8 years old, you can reach out to us anytime. Questions about behavior, health concerns, life changes — we're always here. When you join our family, you're in it for good.
