SEO and Metatags for Breeders

Greetings to my fellow breeders! I'm Heather Gibson, and I’ve been breeding for over 10 years. Breeding is more than just happy dogs and cute puppies. It requires constant learning and adapting to changes in the industry, both medically and technologically.

Today, I want to share my experiences and insights into the digital realm. Focusing on the game-changing strategies of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and metatags has changed everything for me.

The Importance of SEO

Not too long ago, my online presence was almost non-existent. My beautiful Mini Golden Retrievers weren't getting the attention they deserved. It wasn't until I delved into the world of SEO that everything changed.

SEO, or the art of climbing the digital ladder, is so important for breeders in this tech-driven age. The difference is being buried on the seventh page of Google versus being the first thing potential buyers see. Most people only look at the top few options that come up on a good search. The likelihood of someone looking past page two of the search is extremely low.

When my website started appearing on that coveted first page, the floodgates opened. Inquiries poured in, and my sales soared. SEO isn't just a buzzword, it's a secret weapon that you can learn to use. SEO efforts can amplify your efforts to find amazing families for your puppies and kittens.

Deciphering Metatags

Now, let's dive into metatags – they don’t get a lot of attention, but they can make a huge difference for your website. Metatags are like the whispers you share with a trusted friend, guiding search engines and teaching them what your website is all about. Search engines look for three main types of metatags: title tags, meta descriptions, and header tags.

Imagine your title tag as the headline of your website. It has to captivate, intrigue, and, most importantly, contain keywords that resonate with potential buyers. For Mini Golden Retrievers, I often opt for titles like "Mini Golden Retrievers for Sale: Your Perfect Companion Awaits.

It's a delicate art, combining brevity, keywords, and that irresistible click-factor. Your Title Tag should not exceed 60 characters in length.

2. Meta Descriptions: The Art of the Sales Pitch

Your meta description is the elevator pitch of your website. In a mere 150-160 characters, you need to convey the essence of what makes your kennel or cattery special. No clickbait, just a genuine representation of the love and care you pour into your breeding. Don't forget to sprinkle in those keywords naturally and use action words that prompt action, like "discover" or "start today."

3. Header Tags: Organizing Your Digital Narrative

Header tags, the chapters of your digital book, make navigation a breeze for both search engines and visitors. Keep your headers relevant, mobile-friendly, and engaging. H1 serves as the main title. H2 and H3 act as chapters and sub-headers, enhancing the overall user experience.

Choosing Your Platform Wisely

The digital landscape is constantly changing. You need to be able to change with it. Choosing the right platform for your website is crucial.

From Wavoto to WordPress, each has its strengths. I personally love Wavoto for its all-inclusive features and user-friendly interface, but every breeder's preferences differ. Experiment with different platforms until you find the one that aligns best with your unique needs and style.

No matter which platform you use, you need to ensure that your web pages contain high-quality content. If you'd like to rank higher in the long term, you'll need to be mindful of your SEO strategy and efforts. Utilize SEO tools, such as Metatags, to your advantage. The platform you choose should help you maximize your SEO.

Putting Metatags Into Action

Now, let's roll up our sleeves and put metatags into action. Let's talk about the nitty-gritty details, ensuring your metatags are not only effective but also mobile-friendly.

Tools like ChatGPT can be your creative sidekick in crafting tags that stand out. And don't forget keyword research – identifying and incorporating relevant keywords will amplify your search engine visibility.

Depending on the platform you're using, the appearance of metatags may vary. It can also be easy to confuse the SEO tools your platform may offer, with a good place to put your metatags. However, there should be a separate place where you can input SEO information which is different from where you’ll put your metatags.

For your metatags, you'll need to build a line of code that goes into the head text of your webpage. Various options exist to write this code. You can use widgets, add-ons, or websites like SEOptimer to generate metatags.

Input as much information as you can into the generator. Ensure the information you include accurately describes your webpage. Search engines will mark down your website if you don't adhere to this.
